Motivating yourself to work out can be hard. I can come up with dozens of reasons why I should skip the gym on any given day, but there are no advantages to that. Self-care is a critical component of living a life full of soul. Regular exercise elevates the mood, providing a clear mind and an energized body making you feel amazing! We know it’s not easy so we’ve compiled six ideas to help you get off the couch and get moving!
1. Set Small Goals First
Set your weight loss goals in 10lb or fewer increments. If you’re maintaining your weight or training, set small goals there too. These small goals all lead up to your ultimate goal; they’ll keep you motivated rather than feeling discouraged.
2. Give Yourself A Real Reward
Whether it’s a hot new outfit or something more substantial, give yourself something amazing to look forward to when you reach your goals.
3. Grab A Friend
Working out is always better with a friend, and it keeps you accountable! It’s harder to skip workouts when someone else is counting on you to show up. Plus having someone around with similar goals is super motivating, helping you both achieve your goals faster.
4. Keep A Journal Or Download An App
I LOVE MyFitnessPal. Not only can you see all your workouts and food entries in one place but you can upload progress photos too! I find it super motivating to see my entry streak too. There’s nothing like seeing proof that you’ve stuck with your goal and dedicated time to just yourself, daily, for 60 days straight.
5. Stop Making Exercise About How You Look
Make it about how you feel. Your body will change naturally as you stick with your fitness plan, but you will feel better and incredibly energized after every workout. When you stop putting the pressure to be perfect on yourself and your body, you’ll be amazed at the responses you’ll see.
6. Mix It Up
Do something different every day, or every other day. Whether one day is cardio and the next day yoga, keep some variations in your routine. By mixing it up, you won’t get bored, and you’ll have a new workout to look forward to every day.
